Last
of the Vikings
Kirsty is overjoyed when she
is accepted for a job in Norway, working with the author
Anna Grondahl. She has spent many holidays in Norway
with her mother’s family and speaks the language fluently.
Soon after her arrival she meets Anna’s nephew, Lars,
and is both attracted and repelled by him. She can’t
understand his attitude to her – charming one moment
and insulting the next.
Kirsty is befriended by Henrik, a friend and neighbour
of the Grondahls, and begins to enjoy a social life
with him and his student friends. In the meantime, Lars
seems to be totally involved with Sonje, Henrik’s cold
and calculating sister.
In spite of this, the mutual attraction between Kirsty
and Lars cannot be denied and, for a time, it seems
that something might come of their relationship. However,
Lars soon makes it clear to Kirsty that he has no respect
for her and would certainly not think of her as a life
companion. It is only after this final rejection that
Kirsty decides to leave. Her leaving brings Lars to
his senses and he pursues her to the ski slopes of Western
Norway.

she deserted years before. What is worse is that she
never told Paul he had a daughter.
